Our School Routines

Code of Conduct (click here to print pdf version)

Supervision begins at 8:00 a.m. Students are expected to stay outside until the first bell rings at 8:15 a.m. They then enter the school through the appropriate side or back door. After school students are supervised until 2:23 p.m. unless they have to stay to complete work with a teacher or are participating in a school event. Students are not to use the front door when entering or leaving the school. The only usual exception is when students are late arriving in the morning.

Parents with students who live in Silverdale Elementary's catchment area that have questions regarding the bussing, should call the Bus Garage at 604-826-2377.

Absences and Late Arrivals

The safety of our students is our top priority. We really appreciate being informed if your child will be away from school or late arriving to school. A telephone call before 8:15 a.m. or a message left on our answering machine would be appreciated. Children arriving late need to enter through the front door and report to the office before going to their classroom. A late slip will be issued to the student to give to their teacher. This allows us to ensure all children have been accounted for.

Lunch Break

Students are dismissed for their outdoor break at 12:00 p.m. They come inside to eat lunch from 12:30 p.m. to 12:45 p.m. On outside days, students go outside where they are under adult supervision. On inside days students either play in their classrooms or participate in organized activities that may be arranged.

Students Leaving School Grounds

No students may leave the school grounds without thepermission of school personnel or written permission from home.

Student Illness

If a student should become ill or injured while at school, parents will be contacted. If we are unable to contact parents, we will contact the emergency contact we have on file. Children will not be sent home unless an adult is at home to supervise. We will keep your children at school until we can make contact. Please ensure that parent and emergency contacts are kept updated with our office. It is critical that we have accurate home, cellular, and work contact numbers for parents, as well as any emergency contact informtion.

School Telephone

The school telephone is used by students for emergencies only. Students are not to use this telephone to make arrangements to visit friends or to call for rides after school. These arrangements should be make before school.

Student Conduct

Our expectation is that students will conduct themselves in accordance with our school Code of Conduct. When students make an inappropriate choice, parents will be contacted. Student discipline will follow guidelines outlined in Mission Public Schools Policy Manual. Our prime goal is to assist students in monitoring and adjusting their own behaviour so that discipline is a learning experience.

Dress Code

It is expected that all students will wear clothing that is appropriate for an elementary school. Students are not to wear:

1. Clothing with expressions or advertisements including violence, foul language, tabacco, alcohol or drugs.

2. Clothing which is revealing. Undergarments, midriff and back must be covered.
